Christmas Tree Skirt.. revisited

I have a confession..

Decorating for Christmas is one of my favorite things to do! But wait.. that's not my confession.

Last year I made a tree skirt for our tree... I have a thing for pinwheels. Also.. not my confession.

So this year.. as the husband lugged in all the Christmas bins... I stood there, all giddy.. like a kid waiting to open presents. I couldn't wait to pull out my tree skirt from last year. It was the first thing I went for.

No.. It wasn't the Santa (above) that my Mom made in ceramics (circa 1976) that has been under our Christmas Tree since I was a kid... and it wasn't the handmade ornaments from my kids.. or the wall hanging my little guy made me last year with his handprints.. Nope.. now I feel really guilty!! There - that's my confession..

Look at our doggie..  The site of the tree skirt made her happy too! She could finally rest after seeing it under the tree.

So let me just say.. if you are a quilter and you haven't made a Christmas Tree skirt for your tree.. WHAT on earth are you waiting for??!! It really makes the tree.  And if you have made one.. I'd love to see a picture of it! Either email me.. or leave a link in the comments so everyone can come have a look.

  1. Ok... I confess.... I haven't made a skirt for our tree (we don't even put our tree up till 12 days before Christmas) but I have made plenty of other Christmassy stuff which I am excited to be getting out (like my advent trees and my Rudolph wall hanging!) roll on 1st December :0)

Your tree skirt looks very pretty and your dog looks very comfy cosy next to it.

  2. Beautiful...I can see why you are soo giddy...your giddiness is contiguous! I'm now supper giddy to get mine completed this week! I started mine last year and thought I messed up, so put it away--well, I HAD to make it now (old one was tossed at the end of last season)...and my tree is up and NAKKID!! :)

Again, yours is simply beautiful! Thanks for sharing your giddiness!

  3. Wow Heidi - that's perfect because I only made my first (in the last 40 years anyway) tree skirt last year too and I can't wait for it to come out of the bin later today! Here is where I posted about it last year:

  4. I haven't made one. I just use a bright red (fancy) table cloth that I bought one year, and I bunch it up and wrap it around the tree.

Maybe 2011 will be the year I make a tree skirt, and maybe the table cloth will actually end up on a table...

I completely agree with you that having a quilted tree skirt really makes the tree!

  8. I think your tree skirt is beautiful--I love pinwheels too! And the dog is too cute! I've made two skirts for the family tree-- the first was as a newlywed who just wanted to get something under the tree in a hurry. It was supposed to be for just a year or two. It stayed for about 24 years! I made the new one last year; based on a pattern from a Fons & Porters Love of Quilting magazine. I blogged about it here: http://theworksofourhands.blogspot.com/2010/01/christmas-in-january.html

    (I hope that works!)

  9. I made one this year. Here's the link. http://tameraquilts.blogspot.com/2010/11/finish.html

I quilted the handprints of each member of the family.

    You're right...the skirt makes the tree. :-)

  10. I have just started with the decorating and do not have the tree in the house yet. My tree skirt is red/black check as the tree has an "up north" theme. Appropriate for Minnesota!

  11. No, I haven't made a tree skirt...Now, I feel guilty! :-) I bought one last year that was really cute and I put that around the tree last night. I guess that's just not good enough, huh! Hm, one more thing to do on my list...I do like yours alot. i'LL have to think about this one. I bought three different patterns for tree skirts and haven't made any of them because I couldn't make up my mind. Now, I have one more to think about. I will pull those out and see which one I like best and see if I can work on it for the FNSI...Happy holidays.
