So with the beginning of each New Year, it's natural to look back and reflect on the year that has just passed us by. Some of the things I've been thinking about are....
- the success of the Friday Night Sew-In. ALL I can say is WOW!! We have helped and encouraged each other to get things done every month! And it's been so fun along the way! We have so many new people joining us all the time and we love having each and everyone of you! And there are a few of you that have been with Bobbi and I from the beginning. You know who you are.. and so do we! Thank you!
- the success of my little blog. So amazing and humbling. I work best when I have deadlines - and having things to share with you all has kept me on track and accountable. Thank you!!
And finally - I reflected on all my UNFINISHED PROJECTS!! YIKES!
I cannot move forward in 2011 knowing that I have left so many things undone. Therefore, I have decided that I need to finish atleast 1 project a month that I started in 2010 (starting in February. LOL)
So for my Friday Night Sew-In last night - I made huge leaps in getting 3 projects complete.
Last year I started 2 Pinwheel Sampler Quilts. I finally sat down and finished ALL the blocks for both of them. This was VERY exciting for me!
I am planning to lay them both out today and hopefully get the tops finalized. (notice I didn't say sewn together? Just finalized)
And I also worked on some more of my 9patch blocks for my 9 Patch Quilt that I started last year as well. I can't wait to get this one done.. I love the 9 Patch Quilt. And I'm using all scrap fabrics for this project which makes it even more fun and satisfying.
And just when I thought I was on a roll - after almost 4 hours of sewing, my oldest came to me in tears because of a sore throat that had been bothering him since Thursday. Why do these things wait until the dark of night? He doesn't cry very often.. so I knew it was bad. So, I packed it up and ventured out into the COLD and snowy night to take him to Urgent Care.
And a couple hours and a throat culture later - confirmed strep throat. Poor kid!
But wanna hear something scary?? I shared an ice cream cone with him during the day. You know.. like any good Mom does when their childs ice cream cone is dripping all over the car their little hands.. we step in and do some licking to help them keep up. Let's hope I'm not paying for it in a few days!!
Oh no, the poor thing. Hope he feels better soon and that you don't get it. You did get quite a bit accomplished before he got stick though. Good job on the UFOs!
ReplyDeleteStrep throat is SO icky.
ReplyDeleteHope you remain "germ free!" LOTS of thorough hand washing for everyone else in the house.
There's nobody like Mum when you're not feeling well ;oD
ReplyDeleteI love your UFO's I'm looking forward to seeing them done! And a big Thank you for hosting the FNSI I don't always join up but when I do I have sew much fun.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
For someone rushing of to urgent care you accomplished a lot! Love all your blocks! I cannot wait to move on with something new. I did not get much done myself because we ended up with a couple of grandsons and I had to wait until they were in bed and fast asleep.
ReplyDeleteThose UFO blocks are lovely. I'll be watching to see them in a finished quilt :) because it encourages me.
ReplyDeleteSorry about your little one having strep, I had it often as a teen.
Great job on tackling the UFO's. If you have a regular DR call them and tell him about sharing the ice cream cone and he might be willing to perscribe antibotics without actually having to see you and pay for another visit...just a thought!
ReplyDeleteWow! You got so much done, even with having to take your poor son to the doctor. Keeping my fingers crossed that you don't get strep throat.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting FNSI! I got quite a bit done, and am still sewing today.
I hope you don't get the ick as we call it! Nice job on all those blocks!
ReplyDeleteStrep throat sucks, but at least antibiotics usually clear it up pretty quickly.
ReplyDeleteI FNS'd for the first time! Will link with pix once I've got Picasa working.
I FNSI and had a great time. Thanks for getting us organized and motivated.
ReplyDeleteI entered for the first time and loved it. It's really encouraging to engage. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the Sew-in, even though mine didn't go as planned this time. Next month is waiting. Always a comfort.
ReplyDeleteOn a different note, I did a pinwheel quiltalong last year, too. My top is finished and waiting for a quilting opportunity (hopefully I will start on it in about a week). Yours are looking GOOD. Way to go on being so much closer to a finish.
You managed to get a lot accomplished. Hope your son feels better soon
ReplyDeleteI love taking part in the sew-in. It gives me a legit excuse to do nothing but sew for a whole evening - night. Your UFO's are lovely. I can't wait to see the finished quilts.
ReplyDeleteAs for strep, I feel your pain. We just went through the third round with my DS. There is just something about the kid that makes you "just know" when it's strep and you need to take *this* sore throat to the doc.
Hope he's feeling well soon and maybe the cold ice cream killed off the bugs!
ReplyDeleteYou had a very productive Friday!!! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished results of these blocks!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope your little boy feels better soon, and the shared ice cream doesn't result in down time for you.
Quiltingly Yours
Andrea
What gorgeous projects. Hope your son is feeling better. I am so glad that you are finishing up those quilts...they are going to be lovely!

I hope you avoid the strep throat and that your poor baby is well soon! Thanks for hosting fnsi once again! your quilts are going to be amazing!
ReplyDeleteYou really made alot of progress last night! Can't wait to see how you'll place all those blocks into quilts.
ReplyDeleteHope your son feels better soon and the nasty bug doesn't catch you:)
I hope you don't get strep too, that is one of the worse things. Plus then you won't feel like sewing and you have lots to do like me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting FNSI again this year.
ReplyDeleteI got to complete some projects this time - one a very old UFO.
Look forward to seeing those quilts together, your blocks are pretty.
Hope the germs vacate quickly and leave the rest of the family in peace.
I'm glad you got some work finished before the little one got sick. I hope he's better soon. This is my 4th FNSI--and I appreciate it. I've been able to sew and complete a project every month. It's fun to think that over 100 people are all working on projects the same time you are. Congratulations on starting the group.
ReplyDeletesounds like a good night for you
ReplyDeleteI have my progress posted

sounds like a busy friday night
ReplyDeleteI learned the hard way not to drink after my kids when I caught strep throat from one of them. It hurts so bad! I hope you don't catch it, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting the Sew In again. I loved sewing with everyone. I have my photos posted on my blog and in the flickr group.
Your blocks are beautiful.
Great progress on your blocks..love them all. Also like the idea of finishing 1 project a month that has been started from before...I'm joining you in this!!
ReplyDeleteSorry about your kiddo, and fingers crossed you are ok. Here's my link for my FNSI progess.

I do hope you will not contract strep throat, and I pray that your son will soon regain his health!
ReplyDeleteI finished my project for the Friday Night Sew-In, and have posted the results on my blog.
Thank you for organizing this event. This is my first time to participate and I look forward to the next one!
Hope you do not get the sore throat and your son is well soon.
ReplyDeleteYou have done well and are starting to complete those UFO's. That is my mission this year. My biggest bug bare is the POSTAGE STAMP QUILT. WHY did I ever start it LOL.
Great effort on your sewing on Friday nite. Sorry to hear about the sore throat... but I've heard chocolate wards off sickness! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the Friday night work. You did a lot - hope you aren't sick and don't get there!
ReplyDeleteOh i hope he gets better soon! It always happens at night! You still got a lot done. So did I! I also was concentrating on UFO's! I posted my FNSI late last night. Thank you so much for the motivation. I would not have been in the sewing room if it weren't for you and Bobbi!
ReplyDeleteIt's always worse at night, poor thing. I hope you don't get it and that he's better soon. I've had my sore throat/cold/achey thing since before Christmas but that's not a very encouraging thing to tell you! See you've got snow outside your window, looks cold. Love your blocks btw and love FNSI.
ReplyDeleteI hope your son is feeling better today.
ReplyDeleteYou completed a lot on your sewing. Keep us all posted on the progress of your projects.
Sorry to hear about your little one with the strep throat! I pray he gets well quickly and that you don't get it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful job you are doing on those pinwheels! Makes me want to get back to that project I have on those!
I did the Friday night sew-in basically all weekend, and am still working on it today. It is just so inspiring to have this Friday Night Sew-In. Thank you and Bobbi so much!
Sorry about your son's sore throat, hope you can escape it somehow but sure doesn't seem like you will. Thanks for hosting the FNSI. I love them.
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are just beautiful and the fabrics are just stunning. I hope your son is feeling better now.
ReplyDeleteI, too, need deadlines/goals and for some reason if i just set them by myself for myself.......the motivation just isn't strong enough. So, I decided to start a challenge on my blog. I call it the FYP (finish your projects) Challenge. It goes for a month. For every project a person finishes they get a ticket in a drawing for that month. I give a prize to the winner. I don't put my name in the drawing. But, it is fun for me to encourage others and I feel that I have to be an example to do at least one finish a month. =0)
