Chalk Board Fabric!!

Yes - it's true! I found fabric that is a Chalk Board.

I know you've seen the Chalk Board paint.. which is also very cool. But this fabric is so versatile and inexpensive. It was $11 a yard.

You could take an old frame and staple it inside - hang in the kitchen to post your weekly menu.. or in a kids room.. or your sewing room to list all your TO DO list items.. The options are endless!

I haven't decided what I'm going to do with it yet - but to show you, I cut a square and hung it inside this magnetic memo board. It's just in there with magnets (that's why it's not stretched very tight).

How cool is that!??!

  2. This summer I made a tic-tac-toe on the go game with chalkboard fabric for a birthday gift. It was so much fun. You can see it on my blog. Just look under the labels for tic-tac-toe.

  3. I've know about this for a while but haven't tracked down where I can buy it yet. I have a few beyond-the-page scrapbooking ideas for it. I'll get there one day!

  6. I've come across this at a craft fair but of course the lady wouldn't say where she got it. She made cute little mats that on one side coult be used as a mat and the other is a chalkboard mat and it rolls up for easy on the go. I know the possibilites are endless, just need to find out how to get some. :)

  8. Heidi.....I've found a place that has the chalk fabric. It's a good price just not sure if you want me to mention a company name on your blog without asking you first. Your followers can e-mail me. I've sent you an email with the info already.
    Looking forward to FNSI...Feb 18th.

  9. Hi Heidi,
I like how you switch between sewing projects, recipes and family fun; it keeps the blog interesting:)
Do you by any chance still have my Echino fabric for Quilter Bees? I haven't received a block from you and I was wondering if the postal system went awry or if there is hope I might yet get something. If by some chance I have received your package and just forgotten/misplaced it, my apologies.
    thanks,

  13. I just saw some of the this the other day myself. I thought I would much rather buy this than paint. I've been looking around my work area trying to decide where I would like to put some.

  14. That is awesome! I have so many chalkboards in my house, but none made of fabric! I am going to be on the lookout for this... did you find it at hobby lobby? or Joann's?

  15. Hi Heidi, We sell chalk cloth at Eagle Creek Quilt Shop in Shakopee, Mn. My favorite use of it is to put a binding around a long narrow piece of chalk cloth and lay it down on the table for a buffet or wine tasting party. Beside the dish or wine that is being served write the recipe name, who brought it or the type of wine. Make sure you cure the chalk cloth before writing on it. Do this by rubbing the side of a piece of chalk all over the fabric. Wipe it off and you are ready to go..
