So What's Up?

Ok.. I have been promising that I would explain my "funk" and why I haven't done very much blogging lately. First let me start by saying that I know things could always be worse! I am an optimist. I am always looking for the good in every single situation. It's not always easy.. but thats who I am.

So here goes..

Some of you may remember that we relocated here to Northern Minnesota from Arizona (almost 3 years ago now). When we came, it took me over a year to find a job! Yes, an entire year!!! You can read a little about that HERE.

Well, my job was very stressful. I worked LONG hours and with some pretty demanding and unforgiving people. I have worked in my field for almost 20 years and this was the first time I had been in this type of environment. It wasn't fun. So since the beginning of December, I have been at home again. I am looking for a new job.. but for now I'm giving it all to my family. And honestly.. I don't miss that job or those people AT ALL!!

But - at the same time all that change was happening - we had to make the decision to put down our beloved family dog of 15 years. I had no idea how much this would effect me. I knew it woud be bad, but holy cow! I was a wreck, worse than I expected. My sister drove to be with all of us and hold my hand as we said goodbye. It was horrible.

I know many of you have been there and know exactly what I'm talking about.

So, I told you I would explain the funk and that's it.. I'm out of work and my buddy is gone. But I'm ok.

  1. awww..so sorry to hear about your dog. Our pets play such an important role in our lives. As for the job, it's good that you're away from that toxic environment. Take some time to relax and regroup, and the right job will come along. Hugs and prayers....

  2. Losing a family pet is so difficult... they play such an important role in our lives. When they leave us, all we can do is hold onto the memories. I'm so sorry for your loss. Better to leave a toxic work environment than suffer through it... that's my belief! Hang in there...

  6. So very sorry for your doggie. I had a chinese pug 20 years ago and she got ran over. It just about killed me. I feel for you. And as far as your job, when one door closes another one will open. It is not good to be in stressful places like that. Remember HE has a plan for all of us!

  8. You moved from AZ to Minnesota? wow, what culture shock! I lived at Minot AFB for 7 years so I can relate to that extreme climate. I've also had to put a beloved pet down too. Sending you big hugs all the way from Australia, and hoping your heart will heal. xx debbie

  9. Beautiful dog. I'm so sorry for your loss. Saying good-bye to a beloved pet can be horrible, so take the time you need to grieve.

It sounds like you've made a healthy decision around your job. I hope that you can find your passion again.

  13. Heidi, even if you left that job you still go through a mourning process,.. I left because of a toxic situation and I still struggled for a long time.. I felt no one cared enough to fix things for me. Then to have a great loss... wow girl that is a lot to handle. No doubt you will come back to yourself.. but it is a process and just take care of your self and don't beat yourself up for feeling the way you do. :)

so sorry about losing your beloved pet, we lost our big lab last year and only people who have animals can really understand the bond you have with them, they are family.
Hopefully you are in a better place without the stress of your job and that what you really want comes along soon.

  17. I´m so sorry to hear about your dog! It is always hard to let our beloved furry friends cross the rainbow bridge.
Its good that you have decided to quit this job - your health is more important then this toxic enviroment. I´ll send you some positive energy and I´m sure something better is coming up.

  18. Oh Heidi, I'm so sorry... a few years ago I had to put my 'Belle' to sleep and it was the most horrible thing ever. I spent hours on the phone with one of my sisters that went through the same thing. We cried together.... I work for a school district and have weathered many budjet cuts, but the worse was when I had to switch schools in order to keep my job. It was a cruddy situation. Needless to say, we are going through cuts again and I found out my position is on the cutting block. My union threw my position under the bus so to speak along with another position. When life fells like it doesn't make sense, my therapy has been quilting. I will be doing a lot of quilting over spring break....

  26. You lost your dog and are looking for a new job... maybe you have a future in writing country music songs? (just kidding... hope the thought brings you a smile!)
Hope things get better for you soon!

  27. I am so sorry for your recent losses. When my cat (who I had since I was 19) passed away it seriously took several years for me to even talk about her without tearing up.

I know it doesn't make it any easier, but I hope that all the internet love you get through your blog helps a little!

  28. When I saw your dog, it reminded me of our family dog Freckles that looked like your dog. I missed Freckles when she was gone. My aunt who raises Miniature American Eskimos gave Freckles to my sister because Freckles didn't have a pure black nose and my aunt couldn't sell her as pure bread. My aunt still raises Miniature American Eskimo dogs in Central Wisconsin.http://miniamericaneskimos.homestead.com/index.html I hope someday the void left by your pet passing away will be filled with a new puppy.

  29. Heidi, I haven't seen you in the store for a while and I was wondering what the heck you have been up to. I was hoping it was something fun. I am so sorry about your job and the loss of your dog. Both are stressful and especially to come around the same time. My heart goes out to you and your family. Stop in sometime and I hope the new fabrics will brighten your day! Janet
