Suspense short lived...

Ok - it didn't take me long to finish some projects. I think I was going through sewing withdrawls since I was away from home. I've been a sewing fool.

I made this cute bag with the fabric I teased you with yesterday - not much suspense since I didn't make you wait very long to see the results. But here it is. The bag is smaller then I would like - but I was following the pattern. Now I will make adjustments to make it better - well, better according to me that is.

I loved working with the grommets too! Can't wait to use them in another bag. I have so many ideas floating in my head - I've had to start a small "idea journal" to document all my ideas and drawings. Now I just need time to start making some of them.

I also made this cute receiving blanket tonight - I think I have a baby girl in mind for this one, not sure yet though. I have a couple new baby boys that I need to make things for soon. So I will be making some boy blankets in the coming weeks.

And finally - below is another sneak peek at an upcoming project. Cute fabrics huh? But don't be looking for the final product within 24 hours like the last sneak peek - this one will take me some time. I'm still working it out in my head and need backing flannel to finish it.

Hope you have enjoyed the new pictures!

Sneak Peek

Well, it's been awhile since my last post. I haven't sewn much these last few weeks. We took an unexpected trip up North because my Father-in-Law passed away. He was a great man and will be dearly missed by many! I will be working on a project this summer for all the grandkids so they all have something to remember him by.

I haven't completed any projects since getting back home - but here is a peek at some fabrics that I'm working with tonight. Cute huh!! They are by Amy Butler - I love her stuff.

Check back in a few days to see what these fabrics along with a sewing machine, one seam ripper, 50 (or so) interruptions from the kids, a pot of coffee and a little bit of magic have turned them into.. Pin It

Awesome weekend!!!

Well, I had an awesome weekend with my cousin.. she drove down with one of her boys for the weekend to hang out with us and we laughed til it hurt.

We took a sewing class together on Saturday at one of my favorite quilt stores, Quiltz. This quilt store was recently featured as one of the 10 TOP quilt stores this year in the Quilt Sampler Magazine. Annually they post a "Shop Hop 10 Top Stores" and Quiltz was on the list! Well deserved too!

Anyway.. back to the class, my cousin and I have mastered the bag making - but really wanted to learn how to make a bag with a zipper. And that is what we did.

Here is the bag my cousin made (above) - I like her fabric selection better than mine.

And here is my bag - very bright.

Once we got home from our class - we jumped in the pool for some swimming, then after getting everyone in the house fed and settled - we sat down in front of our sewing machines again and made these super cute journal covers.

We designed the pattern ourselves.. and they turned out great on the first try. No adjustments needed. A few weeks back when I went on my girls weekend - one of my gifts to all the girls in our group was to give them all a journal. This one in the picture is my journal. It is from a local Mom (who I think is an awesome women), her name is Carla and here is her site for Sanity Journals, she has some fantastic journals that I just can't get enough of. She even creates custom journals - how cool is that!!

She created a journal called "Little Me" for tracking your baby's milestone and capturing their soul as they grow. I'm planning to get one of those from her soon. I have a baby shower to go to in about a month and after making the journal cover for myself this weekend - I thought what an awesome gift that will be.. the journal in a one of a kind journal cover handmade by me.

My cousin and I also worked on some smaller things - but I haven't taken pictures of them yet. I'll post them later.

Hope all you Mom's had a great Mother's Day - I sure did! Pin It

Brenda's blanket.. part II

Well, here is the second blanket that I made for Brenda at work. I can't decide which blanket I like better - this one or the green one I posted a few days ago. It's hard to tell with these pictures - but it's a very light lavender.

Again - this is Minky fabric and it's hard to take your hands off it. It's so soft. It's not easy to sew with because it moves a lot, but so worth the effort in the end.

Now my kids want pillows made out of the Minky fabric (in boy colors of course). Maybe in the Fall...

Teacher Gift - or not...

Well, I made a new neck 'bag' for my son's Teacher - it's Teacher appreciation week. But even though my son loves it.. he says he doesn't want to give it to her. I think he's embarassed. lol. So not sure what I'm going to do with it instead. Maybe if I put it in a gift bag he won't be so worried about it.

This one doesn't have corn in it.. it's filled with Flaxseed instead. It can also be heated or frozen. It feels so good!!! I might just have to keep it for myself.

Brenda's Blanket

Here is one of the blankets I mentioned that I had on my to do list. It turned out pretty cute. The binding gave me some trouble (kicked my butt actually) - but after getting out the seam ripper (only once) I got it done. It is super super soft Minky fabric on the one side and flannel backing and binding. Extremely high cuddle factor.

Doesn't it look pretty wrapped in tule? But then again.. pretty much anything looks good wrapped in tule.

I will be working on the purple blanket in the next few days and posting pictures soon after.

Enjoy!
