They packed their bags.. and moved to Arizona.
Even though I grew up in Fargo, ND – I’ve only been to Duluth one time in my life. It’s cold but probably one of the prettiest cities in Minnesota.
Why are we doing this? Well, we never wanted to raise our kids here in such a large city. The pollution is out of control – the crime is crazy.. and even though the winter weather is nice, it’s just not worth it to us. We want to raise our kids closer to their Grandparents and cousins. With clean air.. green trees and so much more.
And remember back in early February when I was laid off from my job? Now you know another reason why I wasn’t upset at all. It was truly a blessing. I’ve had the time to get things ready to put our house on the market. Cleaning out cluttered closets – making home repairs, etc.
But one sad thing about this whole process – I need to pack up my sewing room and make it a spare bedroom. But – don’t worry. I have a plan to keep my sewing machine at the ready – I will just have to take it out and put it away all the time. So I will still have projects to share with all of you. I have a baby quilt I'm working on that I'll share within the week.
Now a favor – could you all say a few prayers for us? Our house will be going on the market in 2-3 weeks and we are praying for a quick sale so we can join the husband and begin this new adventure!
Here is one last picture of Duluth..
So pretty!!! (Notice I didn't share any winter pictures.. That's cuz I need to ease into that one. I'm still in a bit of denial on the COLD aspect)

I wish you luck with a quick sale of your house.
Duluth sounds like it will be a lovely place to live and bring up the boys. Living closer to your family will be good too. Does it mean you live nearer to Bobbi??
Looking forward to seeing your Baby quilt.

AWESOME... Duluth is one of my favorite areas to visit. Some thing about that city and the lake that draws me in. I was born in ND but...grew up in Chandler, AZ( was a small town back in the 70's & 80's), moved back to ND (NW of Grand Forks) married the boy next door to grama, raised my kids there (they still live there) and now I live in Iowa. If I had a choice of where to live it would probably be Minnesota, I love that state! We want to end up back in MN.
I am kinda jelous of your move. We moved to AZ from FL eight years ago. I miss the green, miss it very much. But at least we have semi warm winters here. Must think positive.
Wow, what a change for you! How exciting and scary at the same time. Here's wishing you all the best and prayers along with it too. We'll be waiting and watching to see what happens. Quilty hugs, Linda
Wishing you the very best in your move. How nice it will be to be closer to family. I'm always so grateful to have my children and grandchildren near--that is except for one son who is in NZ getting his doctorate and is getting married today (NZ date). Will certainly add you to my prayers that you can have a quick sale of your home. Good luck with everything! Nola
Beautiful picture of Duluth! Looks like a great place to raise a family!
I know you are excited. I will say a prayer that your home sells quickly. You are going at just the right time of the year to ease into the cold next winter!
Prayers for a quick sale Heidi and a warm welcome to my favorite ever place to live (and the only place I have ever lived) Minnesota!!
Duluth will be awesome for the kids.
Not quite a neighbor though, closer to Minneapolis than Duluth.
I knew it! I was hoping for you that maybe you'd be moving closer to Bobbi, tho. You girls will have to rendez-vous for quilting wkds somewhere in the middle. Sounds like a great family decision and the photos are gorgeous. Winter is a good thing! Cold weather = more reason to make quilts (not that you need any excuses!) All the best with the sale/move and squeezing in some sewing time.
Saying prayers for you. I'm green I have been wanting to move out of AZ for 18 years never wanted my kids to grow up here. Hope you are able to keep your sanity during this time. Moving can be stressful even under the best of circumstances. Good luck and keep us in the know.
Holly
Will keep you in our prayers. And I totally get the "cold" part. My husband wants to move to Montana...as in freezing cold and bears!!!!!!! Two things I'm not crazy about.
Blessings,
Jilly
Heidi - I wish you are your family well in this big move. Minnesota looks wonderful. Our son moved to Tucson 4-5 years ago. The crime is horrible and I don't blame you for moving away from Arizona. It's hard for me to imagine leaving with bars on the windows and doors. But they do in Arizona. Our son is graduating in a few weeks and we are so glad he will be leaving there. He had one car stolen and another vehicle broken in to. It just seems crazy.
Good luck selling your house. There's nothing like the midwest!! Winter just makes us appreciate the rest of the year even more.
That's great. So pretty there. I know one thing for sure, cause I live in AZ, you won't be missing the Arizona Summers! And, you will actually have 4 seasons with colorful leaves in the Fall. I'm happy for you and your family. I'm hoping for your house to sell fast.
well friends...the sad part is she will be 1000 miles away instead of 260. she is moving further and leaving me in the dry desert. i did it to her a few years back...but im gonna miss her and our roadtrips to see each other. duluth will be FANTASTIC for you!!! your just a plane ride away?
Welcome to the northern midwest! I live 85 miles south of Duluth. It is not THAT cold! There are awesome fabric shops in Duluth--there is usually at least one quilt show a year.
Good luck with the house sale. Will be keeping you in my prayers. Hope Duluth will be everything you are hoping it will be.
Just think, all your friends will want to come visit you in your new home! And like someone else said, the cold winters make great quilting weather!! Good lukc with all that's involved in the move. I had a discussion on Monday about possible moving halfway across the country for a new job. Scarey!
Welcome to Minnesota as it is a wonderful place to raise kids! You will love Duluth with so many things to do and great quilt shops. Good luck in selling your house so you can relocate soon.
Good luck with the sale of your house, I'll certainly say a prayer for you. I don't know where any of those places are (heard about them in movies) but Minnesota sounds pretty, good luck
Wishing you a quick sale..and an easy move!
Wishing you all the best for a quick sale a smooth move to your new home
Well, because of Granny passing away, I have out out tune with my favorite blogs. I was amazed to see that you are moving. I wish you many blessings. Keep us updated.
hey, it's really not that cold here ..... we only had 7 continuous subzero days ONCE this year ---- besides makes for sewing time!
Heidi, that is news and now I understand the bathroom redo, which was very nice. I think it is nice to move to someplace new and different if you are open to it. That is a pretty tree lined street!
I wish you and your family well.

I hope you have a quick sale and good luck with the move! Duluth looks wonderful!

I'll pray that your sale goes well. I have lived in St. Paul all my life but Duluth is heaven to me. As a child we spent a week each summer at a different mom & Pop Lake Superior Cabin resort between Two Harbors and Grand Marais. The Lake is indescribably wonderful - it just fills my soul.
Speaking of Quilting, the Minnesota quilt show alternates each year between St. Paul- Mpls, St. Cloud and Duluth. I think it is in Duluth this year - in June. There is (or at least was a couple years ago) a quilt shop in one of the few above mentioned Mom and Pop cabin resorts in Castle Danger, a little north of Two Harbors.Duluth - heaven on earth - with a pretty short growing season.
Linda
We moved across the state when our children were small. Lookng back, it's one of the best decisions we ever made. Wishing you all the best as you and your family begin this new adventure!
