We spent the day yesterday at my in-laws house. Sorting and cleaning through 40 years worth of memories and more as we try to get it ready to put on the market.
One of the treasures that I came home with yesterday is this little seat. I'm planning to use it near my back door as a place to sit and put your shoes on.
I found it deep in the basement and I plan to recover it. I just need to find the right fabric.... hmm.. that could take awhile. But one thing I can't decide and maybe you guys can help me - Do I use regular cotton fabric - or oil cloth? I found a quilt store here in Duluth that has a fabulous oil cloth selection.
Another little treasure that I found was this little "grease" crock. Not sure what I will use it for.. but I knew I couldn't let it go into the auction pile.
We are going back to help my husbands siblings again on Friday.. can't wait to uncover a few more treasures!

Heidi, Maybe if you put cookies in them no one else would eat them, LOL! Wonderful treasures that you found.
Your little seat is sweet. I would use fabric. The crock...a keeper!
I remember my grandmother having "grease" container. She would drain the bacon grease into it. Then use that when cooking, greasing pans, or whatever needed it! Thanks for helping me find that memory!
Hmm...which shop has the oil cloth? I really like the idea of using that for the bench, especially once the winter wet season sets in. Oil cloth might be worth a try. I use a Red Wing Beater crock to hold my wooden spoons, etc. The grease crock is good without putting anything in it at all - love it!
LOVE the grease crock!!!!
That little seat is adorable too. If it is going to be used by an outside door I might go ahead and use the laminated fabric.
what a perfect bench! And that grease crock how adorable, I would use it to store the grease I use to make scones, donuts, ect with
I wouldn't have to think twice about how to cover that seat... selvages! If you haven't yet visited Karen Griska's selvage blog, I recommend doing so. She has all sorts of inspiration there.

What a lovely seat! Is it antique as the style looks very old? It's made made me think of another treasure I have :).
A wonderful find. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it. I vote for oil cloth, but I have to say the selvages sounds very interesting. I'll have to check that one out. Love the crock too. I have a couple I wouldn't part with.
GREAT finds.... crocks with covers are especially hard to find.
And I love that bench. I don't know much about oilcloth.... would a heavier canvas fabric work?

I love the little seat. I would use a fabric to cover it. Then, when it gets old and grotty, you will have an excuse to recover it in something new.
I like this blog. Thank you for sharing this information.
