Did you know?

So I was on the IKEA website - dreaming of the amazing rooms I could put together if I had a bottomless bank account.. when all of a sudden.. I found FABRIC!!

Did you know IKEA sells fabric by the yard? I mean, I've seen people use IKEA Sheets for quilt backs before - but I had no idea they sell fabric by the yard. It's all 100% cotton.

The prices are good - anywhere from $3.99 to $8.99 p/yd. And all the ones I looked at were 59' wide.

So many fun patterns. And many many solids and stripes to choose from too.

And if you don't have an IKEA close to you.. start crying now you can order it online!!

Just thought I'd pass on the tip...

I have used some of their fabric in quilts, and for quilt backs and been satisfied with it. The thing is that much of their fabric is very heavy and coarse, so it would be hard to order online. I wish that on their website they would specify weights or uses. It is a great bargain though, as much of it is wider than normal.

Thanks Heidi! Fortunately IKEA also sell plastic storage boxes so I will be able to get some for all this wonderful fabric! Hadn't thought about IKEA for cotton before, off to look now - great designs :)

Really? Everytime I try to purchase it online I get a nasty little message that says it's only available in stores. Ugh!

Perhaps they've changed their policy...(fingers crossed).

I think Ikea only sells things online that are preboxed in units of 1 AND the shipping charges are outrageous. I wish I had an Ikea near me. :(

I know that if you don't have an ikea close enough to you they won't deliver. I knew someone that ordered a chair and didn't receive it because they weren't close enough to an ikea.

But nice if they are that cheep!!!

NICE!! I didn't know they had fabric either! Of course, I have never been to IKEA, so that does factor into the equation:) LOL

I love IKEA and I stop by every other month - they always have great stuff there. The fabric they have in the german sortiment is quite thick and mostly big prints. Would work great for bags.... but I bought a zig-zag scissor there for $ 5 and works good for my need

I find with their fabric you have to be a little careful. They have great patterns but often the quality isn't great - not enough threads to the inch I think. I'm not sure I'd take the risk of buying without seeing.

Looks like fun fabric, I didn't know they sell fabric. I'm not near an IKEA either, darn it.

Be careful because most of their fabric ( over here in the UK anyway) is upholstery and curtain fabric so it is alot heavier and thicker than quilting fabric. It's great for bags though.

Love and hugs Gina xxx

I have never been to IKEA, there is one by the MOA(Mall of America). Now I will definitely have to try to get there. Cute fabric.

I have been using IKEA fabric for the backing on my recent baby quilts. I bought it in 3 metre (yard) lots for $15aud. It has worked a dream.
